In the heart of Calabria, in the village of Castelsilano, Giovanni Girimonte—affectionately known as “Giovannino”—was born in 1930. A self-taught artist, he dedicated his life to creation, imagination, and beauty, leaving a profound mark on the cultural history of his homeland.
His art did not follow academic paths, but rather walked the road of passion, spirituality, and a deep bond with his native land.
Girimonte took part in numerous art exhibitions, receiving prestigious awards such as the 2003 Venice Biennale, the Giorgio Vasari Prize, and the World Culture Award. Yet, what truly made him unique was not official recognition, but his ability to transform a corner of the Sila Mountains into a sacred place for art.
