Through hills, history and spirituality – 9.5 km from Castelsilano to the Patia Church. The “Patia Tratturo” is an ancient transhumance path, now transformed into a fascinating hiking route through the heart of Calabria. Stretching for approximately 9.5 km with a total elevation gain of 350 meters, it connects the village of Castelsilano to the historic Patia Church, located in the municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore. The trail winds through rolling hills, wooded areas and rural landscapes that preserve the timeless charm of traditional countryside life. The average walking time is about 3 to 3.5 hours, with a medium level of difficulty, making it suitable for moderately experienced hikers. The path surface is mainly natural dirt, with grassy sections. The route is fully marked with wooden directional signs, placed at key points to guide hikers safely along the way. Along the trail, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of valleys, farmlands and mountain ridges. The surrounding environment is rich in biodiversity, with native oak trees, broom shrubs, birds of prey, hares and other typical species. Historic farmhouses, dry-stone walls and other remnants of rural life still bear witness to the area's deep-rooted traditions. The route is also suitable for mountain biking.

At the end of the hike, you’ll reach the Patia Church, officially known as Santa Maria dei Tre Fanciulli (Latin: Trium Puerorum), an ancient Basilian abbey surrounded by silence and greenery, not far from the hamlets of Fantino and Acquafredda. The church is a site of deep spirituality and local legend, making it a truly evocative destination. To fully enjoy the experience, hikers are advised to wear trekking shoes with good grip, carry at least 1.5 liters of water per person, and use sun protection and trekking poles, especially on inclined sections.
