Between Folk Art and Rural Tradition. In the heart of Castelsilano’s historic center lies Via dei Panari, a charming alleyway that tells the story and identity of the village through its art and craftsmanship. The street takes its name from the “panari”, traditional handwoven baskets once used in everyday rural life, now displayed on the walls of the houses as enduring symbols of memory and culture. As visitors stroll along this quaint path, they can admire baskets made from wicker and rush, each with its own unique shape and weaving technique—true masterpieces of local craftsmanship. Adding to the immersive experience are vivid murals, painted by both local and international artists, depicting scenes of folk life, Calabrian landscapes, and traditional motifs. Every August, Castelsilano comes to life with the Festa dei Panari, the main event of the summer festival "Rughe in Festa." During the celebration, Via dei Panari takes center stage: adorned with its hanging baskets, it welcomes visitors with traditional music, street performances, local food and wine, handicrafts, and folklore. The streets of the village are transformed into a lively festive scene, featuring guided tours, tastings of local products, craft markets, and moments of community togetherness. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the local traditions in a truly authentic and charming atmosphere. Today, Via dei Panari is an open-air museum, a place where time intertwines with creativity and the identity of Castelsilano, offering an authentic emotional journey with every step.
